Melbourne a City of Musical Dreams
Many people who think of a thriving music scene might think first of Seattle, New York, or Nashville, maybe even LA, but the truth is one of the best scenes around is Melbourne, Australia. There are many great melbourne bands and some of them have made it big. The Melbourne music scene is said to contribute over a billion dollars to the economy and it drawrs huge numbers of people to come see and hear.
Melbourne has nearly 500 music venues and over 14 million people come to the area each ear for the music. This puts it right at the top of world sized music cities like Tokyo, Paris and New York.
Other cities are now trying to mimic Melbourne and change the way they promot their music and venues. One thing they are doing is easing noise restriction to allow for more music at later hours.
Melbourne will likely stay at the top however, since they already have the title. On a typical Saturday over 97,000 people will attend a live music event in the city. (more…)
